Fiji Bures

Hi Loretta
Can you be a more specific? A bure is simply a small thatched building and Viti Levu is a large island. Do you want to stay in a large resort, small resort or are you looking for a private home to rent? What do you like to do for activities? Is there any area of the island you would prefer to stay on? I'm certain you'll get more replies if you can be a bit more specific.
Regards,
Diane

Hi Loretta,
I have stayed at the Sonaisali though not in one of the bures. It is a nice resort but the beach is a dark sand beach so there is no visibility right off of the resort. They do have dive trips and an island hopping boat ride. I liked the Sonaisali and would recommend it for the Nadi area especially if it's only for three days. You are close to the airport and you can take day trips out to the Mamanuca's if you'd like. I think it's a good choice. One suggestion would be to bring your own snack food and alcohol if you can because that is very costly at the resort. You're quite isolated and there is no shopping within walking distance. They do have a small catamaran, if I remember correctly, that you can take out sailing. Have a great time.
Diane

Loretta,
The one thing I forgot to mention is that all beaches in the Nadi area are dark sand beaches. The nicest beaches in the northwest area off Viti Levu are the Mamanuca's and the Yasawa's. In the Mamanuca's you'd be looking at islands such as Castaway, Malolo, Tokoriki, Vomo, Plantation, Mana etc.
Hope this helps in your decision making.
Diane

Loretta,
It was twenty years ago that I stayed at the Regent of Fiji which is now one of the Sheratons....the Royal Denarau I think it is. There is about three Sheratons in the one area I think. I'm more inclined to stay in a smaller resort which a less "stuffy" feel to it. I guess it all depends on what your likes are. The Sonaisali was perfectly fine and I believe a lot less expensive than the Sheraton The beach at the Sheraton is a dark sand beach so the snorkelling would be nil there also. I think a short sea plane ride to spend three days on Castaway would be great. If I had three days in Fiji I think I would still do one of the islands or the Sonaisali. Why don't you take a look at Turtle Airways website and see if they have any prices for these short flights. You would probably fly from Denarau Marina but I'm not too sure on that. I hope this helps and that I'm not making your decision harder.
Diane
Just checked and it is $218.00 return to the Mamanuca's on Turtle Airways....looks like any island in the chain. That was quoted in Fijian dollars and not knowing where you are coming from I converted it into US dollars and that would be $96.00 at todays rate of exchange. It's a 12 minute flight.
I think if sailing, diving, and relaxation is what you're looking for then this is the way to go. Just my 2 cents.
Diane
