Fiji, Australia & New Zealand on a shoestring!
I'm planning a backpacking trip to Fiji, Australia, & New Zealand in August of 1999 with two other people. I'm looking for advice on cheap accomodations such as hostels or reasonable resorts. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Fatima, there are heaps of backpackers going around Oz and NZ, try doing some searching on www.looksmart.com.au a very good place to find info to help. Also check out the Lonely Planet book on Australia, Peg.

Budeget accommodation isn't a problem in Asutralia or NewZealand. It is very organized. If you want my opinion, forget Fiji and go to the Cook Islands. It is much more like whatt you are actually looking for. Much cheaper, frendlier and more exotic. Go for it!

Hi Fatima
Gisborne has a packpackers but I also offer a deal to people like you and that
is you spend say 4 hours a day doing things like gardening, if you like and you stay free, if I have a room available and you receive dinner free of charge. I have lots of my 8 childrens friends do this and its fun meeting different people. There are lots of things in Gisborne to see for young people. Gisborne is untouched by the big commercialism, so things are pretty natural here. Its autumn now so the weather can be a bit chilly. However two days ago it was 28. so you cant tell.

The best site I've seen for budget accommodations in Fiji is http://www.fiji4less.com. They sell guidebooks like Fiji Handbook which will tell you everything you need to know.
