Drugstores Downunder

Here in New York City we have Duane Reade. In London there is Boots. Are there any inexpensive drug-store chains (dispensing chemists) in Syndey?

Word of advice, they are PHARMACISTS, not dispensing chemists.

Hey you untraveled idiot.......in the UK the term is 'dispensing chemist' NOT 'pharmacist.'

It doesn't matter what they are called, yes, we have plenty of chain stores down here.

Pat, you ignorant world traveller. If you bother to ask around during your world traveling, you might have realised that they have not been called dispensing chemists for A LONG TIME! I might not be a world traveller like you, but, I am a pharmacist!

Just a friendly reminder that this is the Australian Board and not the USA or European Board where, it seems, you can be as rude as you like.
To the original poster, we have Chemist shops which have a Pharmacist on hand who dispenses medicines.
All medicines (drugs) cost the same from all Chemist shops because the price is set by the Government and the Chemist (Pharmacist) adds a dispensing fee onto that charge.
For the record when I first lived in England in 1972 they were not called "dispensing Chemists" and I have not seen nor heard of any change from that since. I do know that the term Dispensary is used for the "place" at which a Pharmacist dispenses his/her medicines within the Chemist shop.
Hear, hear, Liz!

On the subject of "inexpensive", however, actually there are some discount pharmnacists in both Sydney and Melbourne (and probably the other capitals as well) which sell at lower-than-the-usual-chain-stores prices. However, for a visitor, it's not really worth the time and travel to hunt these down... the one I know is Sydney, for instance, is in Silverwater! Arlene, there are several chains here that will provide what you need: Chem-Mart and Soul Pattinson, to name two. Their branches are everywhere, like McDonalds.
