is it to adjust to driving there??. I'm from U.S.
and their driving is opposite to our's. Would app-

Hi Rich,
Its easy we drive just as well or as badly as you guys in the US. Just remember Keep Left not right, intersections are the hardest to remember but follow the leader and you will be OK. Good Luck

just watch out for the trams when you are in Melbourne. It takes a while driving around trams and city pedestrians to be cool about it.

Hi Rich, I would like to suggest that you NOT drive into the "downtown" areas. For a first-timer, the cities of Melbourne, Sydney & Brisbane can be very scary driving. If you can, organise accommodation on the outskirts of the cities where you can leave the car and take public transport "downtown". Perth and Adelaide are not so bad. Enjoy you time downunder.

Hi Rich. I'm from Canada and recently returned from 8 weeks in Australia and New Zealand. I drove about 10,000 kms. (6000 miles) in total and never had a problem. It's tense for the first hour or two, but stay out of big cities for that time and you will be OK. Sydney is very busy with lots of traffic, but no different from Detroit, Chicago or many other US cities. There is nothing in Australia though to match LA or New York. Roundabouts are a breeze once you get the idea. Downtown Melbourne is a bit confusing. Because of the trams you have to make a right turn from the left curb lane. I wasn't comfortable with that and for that reason never turned right while downtown. I was told by a local that they can always tell a tourist because they put their windshield wipers on when they come to a turn. You see the turn signal lever is on the opposite side of the steering column from ours. Have a good trip.

My sister and I drove while in Australia. We drove in Sydney and Cairns. I think you will have no problem, except I found the roads were extremely narrow. Also watch out for the turn abouts(?), they are called something like that, when the traffic goes in a circle and you must quickly figure out which direction you are going in. Pay attention while youre driving and I dont think you will have a problem. Truly it was an adventure! <BR>
