Bren

As far as I am aware all departure taxes and noise tax (Sydney airport), plus an Ansett Tax of AU$5 a person are in-built into ticket prices - you don't pay anything extra as you leave like you do in some countries. I could be wrong but I think this information is correct.

The above poster is correct. Visitors do not have to pay this tax as it is built into the ticket price.

Bren:
We traveled from LAX to Melbourne, Sydney, Hobart, Cairns and Alice Springs and return to LAX. No tax. If there was one, it was included in the price of the ticket.
John

Thanks for your replies. I am wondering tho' if these taxes will be added onto my kids airfares as the fares being quoted in brochures/fliers etc are excluding all taxes. I know I need to add an extra $100 or so onto hubby & I's fare, but do I need to with the kids too. $200 could get us another couple of days holiday time if you know what I mean...

Thanks again

Bren

Bren- a good source of this information may be the companies that printed those brochures!
