Darlinghurst Area

I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about hte Darlinghurst area. How far is the walk to the Rocks and other areas around Sydney. We are looking for a rather inexpensive place to stay, but something right in the middle of everything.

There are a number of small old hotels in the Rocks area of Sydney. I can't remember their names but they are all listed on the web. One I can remember sells freshly made crocodile pizzas which are really nice and the rooms there are really quite comfortable and its certainly in the centre of things.
Look up the web under " hotels in the Rocks Sydney" or " accommodation at the Rocks Sydney and you should find them

darlinghurst is a fair walk from the rocks but there woudl be loads of buses along oxford street and william street that would take you into town. the lord nelson and harbour rocks are 2 cheaper hotels in the rocks.

the millenium hotel is at the top of william street and is a cheap 4* hotel with amazing views. You can walk into the cbd in about 10-15mins.
Darlinghurst is adjacent to the city and a fairly short walk down to the Harbour and Rocks area through some nice parkland. Be warned, however that its the gay headquarters of Sydney, whcih meands lots of clubs and noise. It also borders on some seedier areas. If you tell me what address you're looking at, I can advise of its suitability.

Hi Aimy,

I guess it depends on your definition of inexpensive (and where you're from)
Just a note about the Millenium Hotel - whilst I agree that it has lovely views and is quite reasonably priced at times (in fact I've stayed there often) it is at one end of the Kings Cross "strip" - this area, especially at night is the home of spruikers for the strip clubs that dot the street, sex shops, a few less than optimal ladies of the night and various small stores, bars and restaurants - in short not a comfortable place for some although personally my only problem there has been being mistaken for a detective. The walk into town from the Millenium isn't great at night - my preference is to use the train from Kings Cross station and hop off at one of the city or suburban stations close in - don't recommend venturing too far out into the suburbs unless you know where you are going.
Another alternative is to stay in a hotel like the Avillion and use the monorail to get about,

Hope this helps
Brian
