Christchurch

How many full days would you spend touring around Christchurch?

Right now I have 2 scheduled in my itinerary, but I am wondering if it is the type of town where I can spend 1 day and this way get to Sydney a day earlier.

Thanks!

How many days will you have in Sydney if you spend 2 in Wellington?

I am not travelling to Wellington.
I am talking about Christchurch.

I would have 1 night and 1 full day in Christchurch and 4 full days in Sydney.

In one full day, you would see the major sights, but of course not everything. If you schedule correctly, it would probably be adequate.

Depends on what you want to see and what time of day you'll arrive.

We just spent two nights in CHC - we arrived late in the day from Queenstown, and spent all of yesterday hiking Rakaia Gorge. We left in the wee hours this morning for our flight to Melbourne. We didn't have a minute to spare in CHC and it seemed really rushed - and I don't like to rush.

If you really want to experience the city of CHC, you'll want a few days to do so. If you want to make any day trips, such as to Banks Peninsula, Waipara Valley, Lyttelton, or Rakaia, you'll need even more time.

For Christchurch central city itself, you can see the main sights in a day. That would include the Botanic Gardens, Arts Centre, Canterbury Museum, new Art Gallery, and the Cathedral Square. I recommend trying to go on a weekend day if it's possible, so you can visit the market in the Arts Center.

On the other hand, it's easy to spend more time there if you want to enjoy yourself.

Hi there,
We were on a tight schedule so just had one day and night in Christchurch. We found that this was plenty and we actually did the two hour Christchurch City Bike Tour, it was guided and covered so much ground! - so we def. thought we got a good look at the city and local information. Sydney is an awesome city and is much harder to get around the Christchurch so we thought it was best to have a little more time there (although it is a lot more expensive also!)
Happy travel planning!
