Spent 3 weeks in Eastern Australia - Woolongong to Bundaberg - in March of 1995 with a family of 4. The "kids" were 13 and 16. Camping, cabins and motel efficiency units are plentiful and approximate North American prices. Prebooking and prepayment of car rental results in substantial savings.
A very pleasant holiday.

If you provide more specific info we can offer our advice. Australia is a huge country and there's a lot to see and do. Do you plan to visit capital cities? Do you want to camp out or stay in motels........? I live in Western Australia and can tell you quite a bit about our great state(the biggest in Australia) or I can tell you about Sydney/Brisbane/Surfers Paradise......Just post more info eg the age of your kids and your preferences. Another important question is if you plan on visiting more than one city, do you pan to fly or drive?
