Bora Bora/Moorea or Virgin Islands?

Hi everyone!
I'm debating over a honeymoon. The man wants the British VI and St. Martin, I was thinking Bora Bora and Moorea. We have 2 weeks, would it be too ambitious to do both? We are twenty somethings flying from Wisconsin. We want to do jet skiing, snorkeling, and some usual touristy stuff. We are planning in May/June and the more economical route, but if we must splurge what do you recommend?
You're help is SO appreciated!
Thanks in advance for your help!

There was no jet-skiing in French Polynesia when I was there or anywhere else I have been in the South Pacific come to think of, & hopefully there still is not. I don't recall any in the BVI either but you can rent power boats. Mexico seems to be where my husband jet-skies, also Barbados & Jamaica. Sounds like FP may be too sedate for what you are looking for? Maybe the Mayan Coast, Playa del Carmen area? Definately would be cheaper. Good luck

4 years ago my wife and I were in a similar dilemma over our honeymoon. We decided that it would be too expensive to go to Bora Bora and Moorea in the manner we would like (OW bungalows on both islands). We decided to go to Barbados instead. Two years later we went on a Windjammer cruise to the BVIs and had a great time. We were able to keep the cost down by using all the mileage points we accumulated using our airline credit cards for our wedding and honeymoon. Now for our 5 year anniversary we are going to Bora Bora and Moorea in style (saving for a year).
You can't go wrong with either choice. There is probably more touristy things in the BVIs but for peace and quiet you can't beat French Polynesia. I liked the way we did it because we set a goal for ourselves to go on our 5th anniversary so we've been able to look forward to it.

I think the Maya Coast of Mexico would be a wonderful place based on your interests. Neither of the places you mentioned offer motorized water sports when we were last there. There is a very large variety of places from Cancun south to Akumal. A stay in more than one location would be interesting. I recommend that you rent a car and visit the ruins at Chichen Itza and spend the night there. Also, Tulum on the coast is lovely as long as you go first thing in the morning before the tourists. You can save a lot of money in Mexico compared to the Caribbean and there are options for much more activities. Flying from Wisconsin is not difficult to Cancun. As an alternative I would suggest Fiji right now. As they recover from the last coup values will be excellent. Check out http://www.bulafiji.com. This is a top honeymoon destination which has a very lovely quality. I would pick it over the places that you suggested earlier. It is only 9+ hours to Fiji non-stop from LAX or SFO. You might spend a few days in San Francisco along the way. You will not have any language problem in Fiji but the culture is very different from the USA.

Jet-skiing is available on Moorea and Bora Bora in FP, although I understand that it's quite expensive relative to other places (we didn't jet ski while there).

Just remember--after your wedding, you'll be really tired, so be sure to allow yourself a few days rest before leaving! It's the one and only thing I would have done differently about our wedding/honeymoon.

There is no place more beautiful than French Polynesia, but I would probably take a previous poster's suggestion and hold off a bit for that trip. It is on the expensive side, but is -without a doubt- the most romantic, gorgeous place on earth. If I were you, I would go do a combination trip of the US VI and the BVI. They're really beautiful and I'm sure it would be a great way to do 2 weeks. You really can't combine the Caribbean and FP - it would be extremely costly, and you really want 2 weeks in Moorea/Bora Bora/Tahiti by themselves. I would probably skip St Martin these days... But I've heard great things about some of the resorts in the BVI - and St Johns is gorgeous. Happy Honeymoon!! Save FP for your 10 year anniversary!
