booking through discount sites

Has anyone ever booked hotels through a discount site and not have the hotel honor it upon check-in? I saw a price on hotelclub that seemed to be even cheaper than wotif. Just wondering how reliable it would be to book through hotel club versus wotif.

Thanks.
Nancy

Hi Nancy -

I've used both wotif and hotelclub and have not had any problems. I always print a copy of my booking and take it with me just in case.

Sometimes the prices between discount sites vary due to extras like breakfast, airport shuttle, etc.

When comparing the prices on these sites just make sure you're comparing apples to apples - the same type of room, same extras (if any), inclusion of all taxes in quoted price, etc.

The only applicable tax is the 10% federal goods & services tax (GST). No state or local taxes apply to accommodation, meals or anything else that a tourist might buy. It's illegal to quote a price that excludes GST, so what you're quoted should be the bottom line. Note also that tipping is the exception, not the rule. The staff you deal with are paid a living wage and don't rely on tips to live.

I have used both wotif and hotelclub and never had a problem. Like Melnq8, I always take a copy of my confirmation, but I have never had a dispute. If hotelclub has a cheaper price than wotif, I would go for it.

i have had a case where i have booked though one site similar to wotif for accommodation on the coast between xmas and new years. there wasn't a lot available and turned out neither was the place we'd booked! they contacted us before the time and said it wasn't and tried to find us something else but to no avail. so, that's just a word of warning. I don't think it happens that much though, and in the example you use, sounds like it should be fine.
