Bedarra Island vs. Hayman Island?
Hi!
We are planning our honeymoon to Australia, and are completely confused as to which island we should pick. This is a huge splurge for us, so we want to make sure we are doing the right thing.
Which resort has a better beach? This is pretty important to us. We want to have a beautiful view, and great snorleing.
Lastly, which do you think is a better value? Both are expensive, but are there any particular reasons you would pick one over the other?
Thanks so much - your opinions and advice are SO appreciated!!! - Lynn Evers

Hi Lynn

Have not been to Bedarra so I can't give you a comparison, but we have stayed at Hayman three times now and reckon it's great! The property has been recently upgraded so your timing is excellent. We have found it a very relaxing experience each time. The good thing is the island is close to everything but also very exclusive. Air access is to nearby Hamilton Island and then a luxury launch to Hayman. The views are fantastic, we recommend the east wing but its more expensive. Last time we were upgraded to a suite, and it was pretty hard to move out of when the time came. Breakfast is right on the beach. We learnt to make this brunch and skip lunch.

There is easy access to other nearby islands for snorkeling etc and we found the best way was to grab a dingy with outboard motor and do our own thing. Quite often you can have an island to yourself.

The other good thing about Hayman is the choice in dining out. Our favourites are the Italian restaurant and Fontaines, their fine dining restaurant. Depending on how long you stay, it might be worth taking a few bottles of wine. as a cheaper dining option we occasionally ordered room service and had dinner on the balcony.

I know what you mean about being expensive, but each time we have been there the experience has been so good that we have felt we received great value for money.

Good luck with your decision and have a great honeymoon.

regards, Rob

My wife and I struggled with this same problem and have selected Bederra Island for 4 days in the second week of Sept. If that is not too late for your wedding plans I would be happy to give you feedback when we get back. If interested, please email me.

Larry

Hi there!

Sorry it took me so long to respond to all of your help and advice!

I really appreciate it, and Larry, will appreciate your comments when you come back from Bedarra.

We know that both will be amazing, but we really want to have a great beach, great snorkeling, and some dining options, so I think we are leaning toward Hayman (although the 24 hour open bar at Bedarra sure does sound like fun!).

We are torn, and will appreciate anyone else's comparisons and insight. Thanks again for your help!! It is so appreciated!
