Australia Weather in August

My boyfriend and I are thinking of going to Australia for the month of August after he finishes law school. We are a little worried about the climate, will it be too cold? We plan on spending a few days in Sydney and the rest of the time seeing Ayers Rock, Cairns, the Great Barrier Reef and the parks in the northern area of the country.

We were in Oz from 8/24 to 8/31 this year. Sydney was cool but sunny except for 1 stormy afternoon. Cairns area was perfect - low 80's during the day and 60's at night. We snorkeled without wetsuits. I think that this would be the perfect time to go anywhere up North and to the center. Definitely go!

Sydney could be a tad cool but I was there this winter and the days were lovely but you would need a jacket at night.
Ayers Rock will be cold at night but nice during the day ( desert climate) but the Barrier Reef and Cairns will be just beautiful. That is the best time to go as its not too hot and usually there is no rain.
Enjoy!!

Hi

This August in Sydney had some amazing days and some terrible days. It is a good time to go to both Ayers Rock and Queensland as Ayer Rock would be too hot during our summer anyway.

Hi, Dawn!

Yes, come in August, but head north straight away and do Cairns and the Barrier Reef first... it's NEVER cold up there, but it sure gets hot come November! Save your Sydney stay until the very end of August or early September, as Sydney is fine but often terribly windy in August, but by September the winds have gone and the weather turns magnificent.
