AUSTRALIA IS NOT UNDERWATER
I saw an article yesterday showing the " travel warning" by the Canadian Government which made me so angry. For heaven's sake do these people ever actually try and get the facts before they post stupid, incorrect and misleading information?
Sure there have been floods in some areas but very few of those areas have been in the tourist areas of Australia, for instance: CAIRNS and THE GREAT BARRIER REEF tourist areas ARE NOT underwater and effected by floods. Neither are the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Whitsundays, hinterland areas of Cairns, Mackay and the Gold Coast.
Sydney is not flooding nor are the Blue Mountains or the Hunter Valley
And so on and so forth............................................. ...........
Yes there has been major flooding in some areas and huge areas at that BUT they are not areas that tourists are likely to go.
Those people who rely on tourists for their living are now doing it very hard because of the number of cancellations that they have had due to people reading misleading information and taking it as a given!
If you want accurate information then ask here - there are many people on this forum who live in all the areas of Australia and can give you up-to-date and accurate information on every area of Australia and the weather conditions.
In fact if ya'll came now there would be some fantastic travel bargains for you.

I know here in FNQ, Mary that there's been a vast amount of tourist cancellations due to misreporting of whereabouts of floods; and whilst huge areas of central and southern Queensland have suffered enormously, it should be remembered that Queensland is a large state with plenty of unaffected areas.
According to Mike Ball, one of the longest established and respected dive operators in the area, "the past few weeks in FNQ have shown the best diving in 30 years - with underwater visibility length to that of a football field".
There's just been enough short thunderstorms, which quickly pass, to keep the rainforests at their best - so a great time to visit FNQ.

Yep - some great specials on the Qantas route from DFW - but it is not starting until May 16 according to the website.
Very dry here in SA- and I hear the same in WA.
Thanks for making things clear for potential visitors MaryD2 - that is so frustrating - and a bit worrying - as if they can't get their geography and information correct over this - what might happen in other more dangerous places?

Mlgb: well not always is all of the Barrier Reef underwater but I did say " the Barrier Reef Tourist Areas". Also my name is Mary, what's yours?
Further to the misunderstandings about what was and what was not under flood level was the masterstroke from Google Maps showing that Australia was mostly "under" the flood level which included a lot of Tasmania and most of Adelaide and its hills as well. The purple dots in Victoria were not even coded in their colour and left everything to the imagination there.

Just for your information mlgb I could not care less if people thought I had not been anywhere or whether they did or did not like all-cap titles and incorrect grammar. Everyone is well aware that you live in NZ and therefore would not like Qantas Airlines being promoted but that's LIFE!

The Queensland Government, where nearly 3/4 of the state was flooded have asked people to go there on holidays. Tourism is a major source if income for many people and they want people to still continue their holiday there if it is possible.
