Aukland Hotel Recommendations
We will be in Aukland for a week in February and would appreciate recommendations for a medium priced hotel in the center of the city with a small kitchen and of course, close to everything.

Hi there Waterlady
If you follow this link it will take you to the Auckland Visitors centre.

On this site there is a tab for accomodation. Leave the fields open (Except for location, enter Central on this) and you will get a listing of accomodation.
Prices for self contained accomodation in Auckland range from around 150 NZD a night up. You can get a decent apartment in downtown for around 200 - 250 NZD a night.
For attraction you will probably want a downtown location. Try apartments such as Metropolis, Quay Tower, or Princes Wharf. There are many others in the area as well.
Good luck with your search.

We stayed at the New President Hotel just off Queen St. in downtown Auckland. All their rooms have kitchenettes. They upgraded us from a studio to a two-bedroom apartment which contained a full kitchen.
From there, you're within walking distance of the harbor and the ferries to Devonport, Waiheke and other islands, and you're right next to the Sky Tower.

We also stayed at the New President hotel a couple years ago.
Good location, as noted previously. We were able to walk down to the harbor and make other touring arrangements at the TI office - just down the street from the Sky Tower and the stop for the hop on/hop off bus.
We also stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment - each bedroom had its own bathroom and the kitchenette connected the two rooms.
Only thing is the hot water supply for the shower was good for a certain period of time only (I recall either 15 or 30 minutes) - or so the sign said. After that you needed to wait a bit for more water to heat.
