Aukland help please!

Currently on a cruise ship headed to Aukland, my shore excursion for tomorrow has been cancelled. Need quick help. What would you do for 8 hours in Aukland? Hop on hop off bus? Just walk around town? Please, suggestions requested, fast!

The revolving restaurant at the top of Skytower was a great lunch for us, superb views too. There's a local ferry to Davenport which has some nice walks, and interesting galleries.

I'd probably head to the SkyTower.

Take the ferry to Devonport. The ferry terminal is very close to the cruise terminal. Short ferry ride, nice place to wander around.
Another choice is to visit the Auckland art gallery - if you do, make sure you see the group of Maori portraits.

Head for Devonport - 12 minutes in the ferry. Lunch, maybe fish and chips from Catch 22 on the beach. Walk up Mt Victoria for a great city view and a view up the North Shore beaches. Book shops and craft galleries and the Naval Museum.
Weather is not so great today so the Auckland Museum could be the back up plan. It's in a superb position so have a walk in the park and visit the Wintergarden as well.
Have fun - I see the cruise ships in port when I drive home and wish I was on one!

Thanks Fodorites! Must returned from a relaxing time in Devenport. Fish and chips for lunch, a walk around the shops and and bay area and a pleasant ferry ride. It was a delightful way to spend a few hours. I can always count on fellow Fodorites for a good suggestion.

Great you enjoyed the day. Auckland's weather is not the greatest at the moment. Have fun on the rest of your cruise.
