Alice Springs

Has anyone taken one of the Ngurratjuta air outback mail flights or hot air balloon rides at Alice Springs? Did you think they were worth doing? Any other recommendations for the Alice Springs/Ayers Rock area?
Nancy,

Save your money, these activities can be done in more scenic locations. If however you really want to then the hot air balloon ride is okay up to a point. It is expensive and you share the time aloft. They take alot of people up at a time and then everyone swaps over with those on the ground.

Some other options for things to do in Alice are :
1. Take a camel to dinner

2. West or East Range tour.

3. Arid zone botannical garden.

Best wishes hope this helps.

Pick up a rental car and tour the West Macdonnell Ranges. There are some magnificent sites - gorges, lookouts, waterholes, etc. Most can be seen in a day.

I'd recommend a visit to Kings Canyon (south of Alice). Great walks, stunning scenery, a highlight of the red centre. If you have time, try to visit Katherine (north of Alice on the road to Darwin), specifically the Gorge. You can do an organised tour on the gorge or hire a canoe, either way it's beautiful.
Kay

The Desert Park in Alice Springs is well worth a visit - make sure you see the show in the auditorium. The Ted Egan show is good entertainment - Ted tells his tales of the outback and sings a few songs accompanied by playing his beer carton. If you are hiring a car, drive out through the West MacDonnell range to Glen Helen Gorge (also see all the other sights along the way) and take another day to drive through the East MacDonnell ranges to Ross River Homestead. If you are a golfer, the Alice Springs golf course is rated amongst the best desert courses in the world. Hope you have a great time.
