Air New Zealand flights

Londie:

We flew the same route just last month and it was fine. The plane is designed for extra long haul flights. I don't know how it compares to Qantas, but it is much better than the regular airlines that I have flown. The seats are a bit wider than most, my favorite touch was the headrest-it folds in so your head is held in place and doesn't fall to the side when you nod off!! The flight attendants were really great.

I am sure that Qantas is very comparable, but I have never been on it. I highly, highly recommend Air New Zealand.

Have a great trip-it is definitely worth the long flight.

KC

I always fly United Airlines between Sydney and LA and have always found it a tolerable flight (if you can call 14 hours in a tube tolerable). You may have heard about that English lady who died after returning to London from Sydney on a Qantas flight from deep vein thrombosis? There were a lot of articles over here about the leg room in economy sections on the plane. United Airlines has the most room - 90 cm compared to Qantas at 85cm. Certainly makes a difference to me being tall.

Anne in Australia

Londie,
You'll be fine, I fly the Sydney-New York at least 6 times a year. Either Qantas or ANZ is a good choice, always choose long haul experts (ie Asian and Pacific airlines) over American or European based airlines if you are coming this way.

We flew the same route on ANZ in January. Not a problem, except for the LONG hours! I agree, the headrests are really great and make the flight much more tolerable. The food was very very good. The only problem we had was that the stewardess' seemed to disapear for hours on end and you couldn't locate them at any time. Take a large bottle of water on the plane with you, it really helps.
We flew back on Singapore airlines. Now that is comfort. What a great way to take a long flight.
ANZ is good, but Singapore Airlines is much better. Jim
