Perth, Australia sets new world record for Krispy Kreme sales
Provincial Perth is no more.
I'm the first to admit that I like the occasional doughnut, usually limiting myself to the odd chocolate iced custard or glazed doughnut from Krispy Kreme on my annual visit to the US...but it'll be a cold day in Perth before I get desperate enough to queue for one.
The local news reported that some 14 million calories left Perth's first Krispy Kreme store on its first day of business.
Not too many years ago the same thing happened in Denver, when Krispy Kreme opened its first store. People would drive up to Denver from Colorado Springs, making a 120 mile round trip for...doughnuts. They eventually opened a store in Colorado Springs, but it closed a few years later, as did its competitor LaMar's.
Funny how we always want what we can't have, and then we don't want it anymore.

<Provincial Perth is no more> Well, dunno about that - Canberra, which has about one fifth the population and gets called provincial and a lot worse, has already been through a complete KK digestive cycle (with all <i>three</i> stores expelled in the great 2011 KK elimination Down Under).

<I imagine Perth seems downright cosmopolitan compared to Canbarra> Dunno 'bout that either - on a population basis Canberra has the highest number of Maccas of any Australian city - what could be more cosmo than that? And WA is about to lose its sole Pie Face -
