If you're interested in walking a portion of the Routeburn as a day hike, you can easily do this while staying in Queenstown - we have. Just drive the 44 kms to Glenorchy, then take the Glenorchy/Routeburn Road to the track carpark - this road is unsealed and can be a bit rough with potholes, streams and the occasional cow, but if you take it slow you'll be fine.

Yes, we are interested in the track....thanks for the advice. Will drive to Glenorchy.

Be sure to leave early, it takes a while to get to Glenorchy and if you've got enough time on the track you can go to the falls, instead of stopping at the flats.

Mlgb...ok will leave early. I have already started booking some of my accomodation and some of the activities.
