1/2 Day/night In Auckland

We have half a Day and a night in Auckland before we fly to Los Angeles. We are staying at the Skycity Grand and was after any suggestions of things to do/see in a small space of time.

Do a ferry trip out to Waiheke Island and if you look up Kelly Tarltons I think it is down in the Marina area, there could even be some night kayaking about the harbour if you feel adventurous.

We took the ferry over to Devonport for a self-guided walking tour, wandered around downtown in the evening, then spent an hour at the Auckland Museum (not enough time, unfortunately) before heading to the airport.

Go up Sky Tower, of course.

There is a restaurant up there that rotates so you get great views of the entire area. But I wouldn't really recommend it for dinner. Also can't recommend the Chinese restaurant on the second floor of Sky City, next to the casino.

There is a tourist bus that makes a loop around the city. There is also a free bus that is available. These have stops that are convenient to the SCG. The airport bus is extremely convenient - across the street from the SCG at the base of the tower.

The Auckland War Memorial Museum would be a good stop. It is a bit of a walk from the loop bus to the museum.

There is an excellent gelato shop in the old ferry building. Nearby you can stroll the waterfront/viaduct area.
