Yunnan: Dali, Lijiang & Shangri-la; how many days?

I don't remember how far ahead I booked the Intrepid tours, but probably not more than a couple of months. Yes, I enjoyed both the Laos and the Cambodia tours - they both had good leaders. I did a short tour in Indonesia with them later, and the leader wasn't as good. I think they are now using local leaders rather than Australians.
What I particularly liked about Intrepid were their itineraries - haven't looked at them lately. Also, depending on the level of tour you take, they use local transport, and give you plenty of independence. The accommodation can be pretty bare bones, though.
If you just want to see PP and Siem Reap, no need for a tour in Cambodia unless you feel like some company.

I admit Siem Reap is my main reason to go. I looked over their list again and Angkor Wat is like 1 1/2 days unless I take their 3 day tour of just that area. I was also looking at their tours of India... Probably could do it alone but all this planning is starting to drive me crazy.
And this thread has taken a quite detour. : )
I'll post a separate thread if I have more specific questions about Yunnan. MmePerdu and thursdaysd -- Your replies have been very helpful!

...is worth a week.
It is easy to find modest accommodation for yourself in Siem Reap (endless choices) and to charter a motorbike early morning to take you, bring you back around 11am for lunch and a nap, retuning mid-afternoon until sunset.
