Jookie, in India keep yourself unfocused. You don't have to go looking for culture there. Culture will find you. The first wave of culture will hit you as soon as you step out of the airport (i.e. if the biryani in Air India doesn't wreck you first)

True.Do not psyche yourself about India.Dont also go with high expectations.Culture is everywhere.Learn to imbibe, get to mingle, read up more, you'll simply love the place.
A word of caution about yoga.It takes a long time to learn the "asanas" & the "pranayamas".A renowned yoga exponent is a must when you intend to learn. If yoga is practiced or taught the wrong way,it could do more harm than good. One of the best yoga masters that come to my mind is Yogacharya BKS Iyengar of the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute, Pune. This is the site:http://www.iynaus.org/News/Announcements/national.aspx
Of late its been a fad & there are many charlatans running so called 'Yoga institutes',of which one must be careful about.
Need more details about your plans before we can advice.
