WUHAN CHINA for three weeks

I am going to be in Wuhan China for the first three weeks of July. I wonder if anyone has any suggestions for good tailors? unusual places to see that might not be in the tourist guides? exceptional restaurants? ANYTHING SPECIAL that you can suggest...thank you!

Wuhan will be hot hot in the first three weeks of July.

Anheuser-Busch has a brewery in Wuhan, drink lots of Budweiser when you are there.

Check out Jiang Han Lu "Walking Street" in Hankow, that’s the city center with the shops and restaurants.
Wuhan cuisine is known for its Yangtze fish dishes.

I used to go to an excellent fish restaurant called “Wan Jiang Yue Liu” or “Riverview Fish House” located off from Yangtze near Hang Yang Gate, Wuchang.
It has all kinds of Yangtze fish and the chef prepares them in difference ways, steam, fried, barbecue, boil, simmer..........you name it!
Its vegetable dishes were pretty good. Tel: 027-88854323

Unfortunately water quality in Yangtze has become worsen by the construction of the 3 Gorges Dam.
The dam reservoir is only a huge rubbish dump and a paradise to breed diseases.

I advise you to cut short your Wuhan stay from 3 weeks to 3 hours.

Wuhan, one of the four hot stoves in China!! Winter time maybe a little bit better to stay. Anyhow, a trip to Suizhou might be unusual for you, where you will witnessed the biggest/heaviest ancient muscial instrument in the world, see the mystery pattern of the coffin cover of Dude' Zeng, with a number of weapons buried some 2000 years ago.

It all depends what are you willing to experience in 3 weeks.
traditional villages? peaceful cooler mountain reteat...?

I will be teachinng five days a week in Wuhan for the three weeks...so my activities are limited to evenings and weekends....I do appreciate the information that has been given. I would be interested in visiting traditional villages if they are easy to reach on a weekend.

those stunning traditional villages are not really around Wuhan. Maybe you should consider post teaching travel. For the bugdet trip, you can always use trains access to Guizhou's Liping, Shichuan'Danba and Zhejiang's tongxiang.

Wuhan has 3 districts, Hankow, Hanyang, Wuchang.
Most likely you will be teaching in Wuchang District, that’s where Wuhan University, Hubei University.............locate.
Jiang Han Lu is the city center located in Hankow.
There is a light rail line in Hankow with Jiang Han Lu stop.
From Jiang Han Lu, you can walk to Yangtze promenade and take a day cruise along Yangtze.
Or you may check out the karaokes & massages parlors in the area.
Not far from the cruise pier, there is tour bus terminal with 4 or 5 lines to different scenic areas within the vicinities of Wuhan. You may choose to take some.
East lake scenic area is not far from the college area, you can go fishing at your leisure.
There are a few fishing platforms along the lake.
The lakes are not as polluted as Yangtze.
I no longer recommend Yangtze fish in Wuhan.
As I said earlier the 3 gorge dam reservoir is only a huge rubbish dump and a paradise to breed diseases.
Yangtze fishes are fed with garbage.
Day trip Yangtze cruise is fine.
Unlike those 3 or 4 day Yangtze cruise, passengers are drinking garbage water day in and day out.
If you can't stand the heat, you may go lake swimming in "the August 1st swimming area" at East lake to cool off.

Temperature in Wuhan would come up to 95 degrees to 105 degrees F in July.
It might be too hot for horse racing.

Last year my friends invited me to a horse racing track in Dongxihu district, Wuhan.

They were having horse races on a trial basis.

Racegoers bet on real money but got lotto tickets back when they won.
