Hi Mike,
Thanks! For wildlife, it was a Canon 7D w/Cannon 300mm lens and 1.4x teleconverter. For wide angle shots I used the 10-22mm lens. It was my first trip with this camera after having switched from a Nikon set-up and I was very happy with the results.

Thanks CarrieT for your reply. Canon EOS 7D SLR is really powerful camera and with 300mm lens its a killer combination.

You're right Mike. I totally agree that for this type of trip it was a perfect combination. I think if you are more into bird photos, it would be best to go up to the 400mm, but for mammals (tigers!) this camera and lens combo was perfect!

Thanks a lot for this amazing report. I've been staying in India for 5 years, but my experience is Mumbai-Delhi-Agra and a few local Maharashtra destinations so far, so it's especially interesting for me to read the stories of people who come to India for a couple of months and get what I call a concentrated experience.

I'm sure a long-term view is very different but also more rewarding because you get to really know the country and the culture.

I've been meaning to warn everyone about the Forest Rest House in Corbett. While I wouldn't have changed my plan to stay there even if I knew this, you may want to if you have a bad back...or if you need sleep. The mattresses on the bed were literally about 1/2 inch thick. It was like sleeping on a board (or a concrete slab). In fact, I think the floor might have been more comfortable! On second thought, maybe it would be good for bad backs? I hear sleeping on the floor helps in those situations...but in this case, I got no sleep for 3 nights. Or at least not more than 10-15 min at a go because I had to keep changing position to prevent horrible hip/back/shoulder/leg pain.

We're planning on going to Bandhavgarh next April, and if we see 1/3 of the tigers you saw, we'll be very happy. Do you think 4 nights is enough, if we're not visiting any other game parks?

mistadobalina, yes, as long as you are in the main zone, 4 nights is enough. Others who were staying at my camp did not see any tigers in any of the other zones even after several days. And then of course, you can never be 100% sure....they could just disappear for a few days or you guide may not be able to spot them...but 4 days gives you a very good shot. Are you going to any other parks?

sandfish and brianmcquilan - thank you very much!

Glad to have found your report -- it was wonderful, and your pictures are great! We'll be in India for just over 3 weeks in Feb-March and we hope to see a tiger in Ranthambhore, but are aware that it is not a guarantee, as we'll only be there for three scheduled drives in a jeep.
