Thanks for bringing it up to the top, Bob.
great report....do I see another trip to India in your near future?.
This time you'll know what to expect...can't wait to see what you will focus on...and you'll be able to focus on all the good history there is to soak in. As usual, I know you'll make the most of your trip.
Fodorites have a wealth of reccos about heritage hotels which are a delight to experience. Of course there is the food...Indian foods of many regional flavors all slightly different from each other.

someone wrote to me yesterday and asked for this report so i brought it to the top...
i had hoped for a return to india next fall but i am finding the current airfares from thailand way to high...if they come down i may do delhi/varinasi/kathmandu, as inspired by craig and jeane....
now magical if you would agree to lead a trip to india, many fodorites would join you... margaret could be the official photographer??

I think it is definitely time for you and Karen to return to India...
(Now why do I have "Return to Sender" in my brain now?
Still think a photo of you dipping into the Ganges in an orange dhoti would beat gpanda's speedo shot!

update: we leave in 6 weeks for slightly less than one month in India again. we start in kolkata and make stops heading westward to Bikner, with 5 days in kathmandu.
i hope this visit will cement a new view of India in my mind. we look forward to the visit.
watch for my new trip report starting in mid-october, 2011. the trip starts out in thailand first, as usual, and concludes in delhi Nov 30.
