Carol,Isis,gpanda, g'day. Any of you or anyone here know a bar called "Home". It's at 114/14 Silom Soi 4, accessable by Skytrain (Saladaeng)and subway (Silom). Sounds like a cool, calm place for a drink & light meal or snacks.

I'll ring them & check it out when we get to Bangers, Nov 30 and get more info. Anyone know any other places with a bit of atmosphere? If Home looks OK, we're planning on being there Dec 26 around 6 pm, barring a dose of Avian flu or a terrorist attack, train derailment, plane crash, ferry sinking etc. etc.

The bar at Face is a really nice quiet place to sit and talk and have a drink. I don't know if they serve snacks in the bar though. But we will most certainly plan on going back there (whether for dinner or not) to enjoy the bar! (there is a pool table in a little alcove also)

Hi Carol- let's do Face then. Is it accessible by skytrain or subway? I hate travelling by anything else in Bangers.

I would love to meet up at Face, but I won't be in BKK until later in January! Son Brad still does not have his ticket yet, so I cannot tell you when he will arrive, but it is looking more like a flight on the 27th of Dec from ORD (Chicago) which would put him in BKK late (11:00pm) on the 28th.

For others who will be in BKK at coinciding times, I think the smallish bar at Face would be a good place to sit and chat. It really has a nice ambiance.

Whoa...whoa..whoa...folks. I haven't been keeping up with this thread so I just tuned in and suddenly there's all of this talk. It seems like more people will be in Bangkok at the same time than I previously thought.But, I only have 1 minute to read this thread so I'm kind of doing an Evelyn Woods speed-read thing right now. Anyhow, Thai Air has changed my flight, so I'll be arriving the 18th of December...instead of the 17th... and will be there until the 6th of January. Let's keep our fingers,toes,eyes and whatever else you can cross crossed that I don't get hauled in for jury duty. There's a new system in which one has to be on hold for 5 days and call in every night to see if one has to actually show up. So,starting Nov 28th I'll be nervous for 5 days. Happy Travels!

My husband and I will be in Thailand from 12/26-1/9. Would love to meet some of the Fodorites whose wonderful info we've used for our trip planning. Here's our itinerary:

OK...From what I can see now...the following people will be in BK on Dec 26th if that's the day we decide on getting together:Gpanda,Isis Monroe,Lyndie,Jim 0884, and Paige TN. We'll all be there at the same time. It'll be so nice to see Isis again as we sat next to each other and laughed at the Honolulu GTG. And it'll be great to meet the others,too. So, have we decided on the Face for drinks? Or should we just have dinner at the Face? Happy Travels!

Paige --we will clearly meet since we are staying at Baan Orapin at the same time and I think it only has 7 rooms! My friend and I have the two one bedroom suites.

The bar at Face is not very big, but your group might just fit. I'd strongly suggest you try dinner there as well. The Thai meal we had was really fantastic. I'm just sorry I won't be there at that time.

Tamara, would love to meet for the lady-boy show in BKK at the end of our trip. We could arrange to go our last evening there, which would be Feb. 24. Would anybody else be game for joining us? I haven't booked yet, but was going to do so soon and planned to ask for seats near the front and center. Others? Carol...is the bar, at Face, smokey or is smoking not allowed? According to a Thai friend smoking is not supposed to be allowed in air conditioned buildings, but when she and I were at the RO Sheraton lobby lounge area...having a drink... back in 2004, I remember a group of Japanese men puffing away.The whole area was filled with smoke. My Thai friend was quite irritated as was I. Happy Travels!

We'll miss the gettogether if you have it on 12/26! We won't be in bkk until 12/28.

Gloria, we'll have a junior suite for two nights and a regular room for the other two. We have all-day activities with Sergeant Kai for the first two days, but love to meet somewhere to say hello.

Gosh, I don't remember if the bar was a smoke-free zone. I'm sorry!! It's small and very intimate feeling. You might be "the only one in the place" as it is not a place where the people like to meet..... YET!

We will be away from Bangkok from 12/27-12/29 so cannot make those other days at Faces.

Isis-good evening to you and hope you've had a lovely day. We will be at Face around 6pm. We prefer to eat and drink early and hit the sheets around midnight. Then up & at 'em for an early start! I'm really not as silly as I sound! Bob thinks I'm just a silly Aussie sheila with little to do but berate Bostonians.
