where to stay in Seoul

We are a 70 year old couple who will be in Seoul for 2 days and 3 nights on our way to Vietnam. I am looking for a good hotel in an interesting area for our short stay. Any help is appreciated.

North of the river. I'll be staying here for my second visit:

Look around Insadong which is very convenient for seeing things and is an interesting area. Close to palaces. Easy to get to from the airport. Myeongdong is also a good area in a busy shopping district almost next door to Insadong.

In Insadong I stay at the Sunbee Hotel - lovely people, very clean, big rooms for Seoul and very reasonable price but no in-house restaurant. There a heaps of restaurants nearby.

Also very near to the Sunbee but a level up are the Centremark and Aventree hotels. Both good but rooms are generally smaller.

It depends on what you want to see while there, but I was very pleased with my choice of the Changdeokgung area, just a few blocks east of Insadong, which MaryW just recommended.

You might find some useful information in my trip report. Its long, but searchable; I spent time in Seoul at the beginning and end of my trip.

Enjoy!
