What is Dukarol? Plus, shopping tips for Mumbai?

Looks as though the never-ending post around "India, the Movie" has been closed, but there was an entry in that post about a drug called "Dukarol" that someone recommended as a preventative to Delhi Belly. Can anyone give any details on what it is and whether it works?

Also, read the great info on shopping tips in Delhi. I will have far more time in Mumbai and was wondering if anyone could help with shopping specifics there- would like gold and fabrics. Thanks!

It's actually spelled Dukoral, it's a vaccine for E.coli and cholera.

See this link for more info:

For gold jewelry try Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri at Opera House or Tanishq at Churchgate. Both bit pricey but guaranteed. For fabrics Cottage Industries at Regal Circle in Colaba (also a great stop for crafty stuff, knick knacks, gifts, etc), Warp N Weft at Marine Lines, Kala Niketan also at Marine Lines, Nallis Silks and Sarees at Mahalakshmi.

Dukoral is recommended by Travel Clinics here in Canada to help prevent traveller's diarrhea. It's available here without a prescription from any pharmacy. Cost is $ 75 Canadian. It's taken orally 6 weeks before a trip and then 1 week before departure. Apparently it's effective against at least 60 % of e.coli caused diarrhea. We have ours ready for our trip to Malaysia in February. This is the first time we have used it so I can't comment on its effectiveness but it seems like really cheap insurance.

I suspect that you might get it from a Canadian online pharmacy. Maybe a Google search will find one. Odd that it's available here without a prescription.

Thanks, galiano. I looked up the pharmacy and have ordered it. It isn't cheap, but from all I have read, I think the prevention will be well worth the price. I have read quite a bit about it since first learning about it on Fodor's.
