Weekend in Phuket

Me and my wife are going to Phuket on the last weekend of June. We would like some travel tips: where to stay on budget and what are the must see and do things in Phuket?
Some friends already recommended this:
Day 1 - taking a speed boat to Phi Phi Island and dining at Fantasea
Day 2 - taking the sea cave canoe day trip
What do you think about it?
Thanks!

Remember that this is monsoon season in Phuket. The waters can be very rough, and you may or may not be able to get to PhiPhi. The canoe trip may also not run, depending on the weather.

Those are good suggestions, but you are only there for a weekend, so I don't think you should do Phi Phi this time. I'd save that for your next visit to Phuket.

Hopefully you will allow yourselves some time to just enjoy the beach somewhere. I have not stayed in any budget resorts so will not provide any suggestions to you. Others will chime in on that. Lucky for you, you are going during the off-season so should get a good deal.

I went parasailing on Patong beach and thought it was really cool! I also took a short ride on an elephant, between Patong and Karon beaches (I think)... along the main road. A short ride complete with a photo to prove it, but it is not all that comfortable! We were glad we opted for the shorter ride!! ha ha

Enjoy your trip.

I should add that this experience was during the June/July time frame. We had some rain, but not everyday. We did manage the day trip to Phi Phi.

What you can do will depend on what the weather is like, don't book a Phi Phi trip till the afternoon before so you can check the weather forecast. Same applies for Sea Canoe.
Which beach do you plan to stay, Patong is the busiest with most budget accommodation but this time of year you can get very cheap accommodation at the other beaches, what is your price range or planned budget, I lived there many years, this time of year you can get rooms, guesthouses and even good hotels for a bargain.
