Warning about Amari Atrium Hotel in Bangkok
Just returned from Bangkok from a Pacific Delight Tour. We stayed at the Amari Atrium Hotel. Warning! Warning:

The hotel it self is beautiful, food great, service fantastic, English is spoken, location is OK but I would not recomend staying there if you plan on trying to sleep!

The first problem is the bed. As a regular traveler for business and pleasure I have stayed at well over one thousand hotels in the last 15 years. Of all the places I have stayed- the bed at the Amari Atrium Hotel in Bangkok was the worst. INCREDIBLY HARD and LUMPY. Sleeping on a concrete floor would be better! We changed rooms twice in hopes on getting a better bed! No luck they are all terrible.

Also, every time someone takes a shower or flushes the toliet in a nearby room you will be waken by an incredible noise. The plumbing is very very loud. After 25 hours on airplanes we wanted to sleep but with the bed and loud noises at the Amari Atrium Hotel you will not sleep and your jet lag will make the trip a living hell!

Be pre-warned! No I do not work for another hotel in Bangkok, I just wanted to warn people!

Vince: My experience was very different. My bed was so comfortable I didn't want to get up in the morning! I really loved it. It was very firm (which I like) and not lumpy at all. My room was on the 12th floor. Maybe I just lucked out. Also, I don't remember ever hearing anyone else's plumbing. It's possible that noone was staying in the rooms near mine. I slept great while I was there. I thought the only disadvantage of the Amari Atrium was that the location is not very central or convenient to most of the sites -- but even that didn't really bother me since cabs were so inexpensive. I would definitely stay there again, although next time I'd like to stay in one of the hotels on the river.

Those places that are dominated by tour groups are always uncomfortable. You sign up for 5 days and there is nothing you can do but check out, find a new hotel and lose your money.

I hate hard beds in hotels and will stay clear of that place next time I visit Bangkok, thanks for the info.

People staying at the Amari Atrium should use the canal boats as the best way to get around. You can take one boat down as far as Pratunum and the World Trade Center and another from there down to Ratchadamneorn beside the Golden Mount Temple.Agility is required to board the boats. Pay on board for the detination.

Americans should bear in mind that hotels that specialize in European guests tend to have firmer beds, as Europeans consider them more healthy and beneficial for the lower back.

I stayed at that hotel also. Those beds were not firm they were as hard as sleeping on the basement floor!

The people at the hotel worked hard to convince us not to go on the water taxis. We agreed but wished we would have ignored them and gone on the water taxi, it looked interesting!
