Visa for China for Canadians
I have read a lot of conflicting info on requirements for visas to China for Canadian citizens (probably same as US?). Apparently, you must enter China within 90 days of your visa. This is the problem...we leave on our year long trip in December, but won't reach China until next September. Thus, we can't get a visa at home before we go. Does anyone know if it is possible to get a visa at Beijing Airport (or Shanghai) or does it have to be done ahead of time? Also, we would like a 60 day visa, rather than 30. Is this possible there (the airport), or will we have to somehow get a visa somewhere along the line in our trip? Any info will be appreciated!

Hi Cindy,

If you are stopping in Hong Kong before Beijing, you can get a visa there. I believe it takes 3 days although you can probably pay more for quicker service. The 90 day expiry period is correct; that is the approximate limit on my visa - obtained September 11 and good until December 12 - from Vancouver's Chinese Consulate.

Regards
Bart

Bart's correct. If you stop in Hong Kong, you can pick up a visa for China very quickly -- less than a day. You'll need to take a couple of passport photos. Alternately, check with your travel agency to see what they can do to help with the visa. Good luck
