Thank you Crellston!
Again great information. We have decided to stay in Chau Doc at the Murray Guesthouse, so glad to hear you stayed there also. We will then head out to Can Tho after that. I know that two days in Chau Doc and two in Can Tho probably doesn't do either of them justice, but we can experience some of the things. I will contact Murray's and see if Ms. San is the same person we have been emailing. We like to travel on our own and she has put together a package for 5 nights, w/ tours and transportation from Phnom Penh to Chau Doc, Chau Doc to Can Tho and on to HCMC for $850, private tour, but I think we can do some of it for less. We can figure out the boat and the buses and I imagine that a tour would use both of those, as opposed to driving us in a private car.

You are welcome Tdiddy.

$850 for 4/5 days seems very, very expensive. I can only assume it includes a car, driver and guide and staying at Victoria hotels or maybe even one of te Mekong cruises like Mekong Eyes, but I am pretty sure that doesn’t go to PP.

The boat trip from PP to CD was around $40 pp and I think Murray was around $30_40 per nightwitn similar hotel prices in Cantho. A private car from CD to CT and another from CT to Saigon should be around $50_75 and are easily arrange via your accomodation and would save you time by going door to door. Buses are very cheap but you do need 5o get to and from the bus stations which are never in the centre of town.

Two nights is not really enough time for Chau Doc but is plenty for Can Tho. If you just want to stay in the town an visit Cai Rang market one night would be enough as you would get a boat to the market around 05.30 and would be back around 08.30. Even if you explored some of the smaller markets you could still make it to Saigon later that day. If you wanted a Homestay in the countryside like Nguyen Shack or Green Village, then the two nights would be better.

In CD the "must do" sights for us were Tra Su Submerged forest, Sam Mountain (1 day) the Cham Villages on the other side of the river and a boat trip on the river to vist the fish farms and markets etc.- a half day is enough so, if you had your own car you could possibly do that on your last morning before heading off to Can Tho.

Murray Guesthouse is a good choice. Nice rooms, free bikes and very the staff were helpful in sorting out our guides etc. The Hang Chau boat from PP can probably now be booked online. If not then any agency or your accommodation in PP will be able to do this
