>>There's a narrow path that leads to the beach and restaurants with hammocks and tables and chairs in the sand.>>
Sounds like you've discovered what I would call paradise.
A beach with restaurants and a place to sleep (hammocks). Mon Dieu what could be better!!
The photos are wonderful. Thanks for posting such a great trip report.

santamonica,
I rarely read trip reports; I even more rarely enjoy reading them; and I never write them. But I just want to say that if I were to write one, I'd want you to write it for me. You are cool, mr. monicaman.

You are all really nice. It's fun to write with you in mind.
We're home. 5hr to Beijing, 13hrs to dc. Beijing is worse for changing planes than chicago. Horrendous lines, unclear directions, little help. They must have a labor shortage.
In the usa global entry worked great, no line to immigration or customs. And Flightcar also worked great, free parking for about 2 weeks near the airport, free shuttle back and forth to the terminal, car wash inside and out, about $50 in rental fees.
We also liked Tripit, an online itinerary service that organizes all your hotel, as airline, car rentals). You forward emails from airlines and they organize it all, handy on your phone.
Last day in saigon was quiet. Swim, visit to central market, another round of wonderful hot stone massages (no hanky panky) for whole family, and a great diner at Hum, a very pretty vegetarian restaurant.

We started home at 4am at the hotel romana in saigon, half a world away, almost a day ago.
Great to be home.

What an absolutely wonderful TR! One of the best ever, complete with beautiful photos. I don't frequent the Asia Forum because although I spent months in India years ago, I haven't gone back or planned any trips there since that time.
I've had the pleasure of meeting santamonica and his lovely wife and, as always, it's so much fun to follow them on their journeys.
I wouldn't have known about this TR except for the Lounge, so thanks for the mention there.
I also want to say hello to progol, who I had the pleasure of meeting a number of years ago in Paris and to also say hi to my DC friend, yestravel.
Oh, was Flightcar through IAD? I really need to get better about these things.

Hi, Louisa! Nice to hear from you! And hello, too, to yestravel-- exactly a year ago, we were stressing out over the Bangkok Shutdown, so it was a real pleasure to actually be able to meet in that city after so much uncertainty.
What a great little community Fodors is!
