Tram up and the top front of a double decker bus back down is what my aunt advised me to do (she lived in Hong Kong for years) and that's what we did! I'd recommend the same.

You can also take min-bus from Army Force Bilding (next to City Hall). It's a bit faster than bus.

I would suggest taking the tram to Peak and back by bus/min-bus.

For the more adventurous types, I took the tram up to the peak (quite enjoyable) and then hiked the Hong Kong trail for about 4 miles until I came out on a busy road (don't remember the name). I caught the first bus and I was back in central Hong Kong in 10 minutes. A perfect way to spend a day in Hong Kong.

Jesus H. Christ, you take the tram to the peak! Who the hell takes the bus? Some of you people here are goofy.

John is right (except for the language part). The tram is the way to go. You will not believe how steep a hill that thing climbs.

The Tram has a 100% Safety Record - Not one accident, ever.

What bus company can make that claim?

So think about that before taking a bus back down.

Michael

Definitely take the tram. It's part of the whole experience.

I'll tell you exactly why you shouldn't take the tram both ways--you won't see much of the mountain.

We took the bus up and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the homes, landscape, views, etc. I enjoyed that as much as I did being on top looking out over the harbor.

The tram just zipped right down the mountain and we didn't see anything that we had seen going up by bus.
