Udon Thani is a city and province in Issan, in NE Thailand. Type the name into Google or Bing and you'll get hundreds of websites.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Koa Sumed" - Koa (or Koh) Samui is a resort island in the Gulf of Thailand, Koh Samet is another island in the Gulf, less developed than Koh Samui.

It sounds like you need to start by getting a guidebook for Thailand.

You can find accommodations in all price ranges at www.sawasdee.com or www.agoda.com or www.asiarooms.com

By the way, October is a difficult month for beach areas in Thailand. Expect rain and rough seas.

She means Koh Samet I think Kathie

OP have a look at http://www.anachak.co.uk/udon.php for info about Udon Thani and http://www.anachak.co.uk/gallery/udon/udon.php for photos

It is a very nice city but not a great deal to do umless you travel the surrounding area - accomodation is very cheap though - late october is a good time to visit as the rains subside around that time so it is not too hot and not too wet

I am new here but very familiar with Udon (my second home) so feel free to ask any questions

I like Udon but as Anachak says there's not too much to do there in it's own right. It's moe of a gateway to Nong Khai/Laos than anything else from a travel perspective.

There are a few Western orientated bars in town however and some 'interesting' characters including a few ex Vietnam vets who have some good tales to tell of the war era.

As for Samet, it's one of my favourite islands especially as I live in Bangkok and can't get south to much.

Apart from the first (and worst) beach, Hat Sai Kaew - a long crowded (especially at weekends) unspectacular strip of sand, Samet is made up of a series of little coves which are all very pleasant.
