Tuk tuk question

Hi,

I'm wondering what is the ongoing rate for renting a tuk tuk for a day? Do the drivers speak good English or we need to circle on a map where we're going to visit?

Thank you

We paid $15 US for the day . In Siem Reap we arranged via our guest house and the driver was excellent. He spoke reasonable English and took us exactly where we wanted to go without the need to point out destinations on a map. In fact when we ran out of places to go (this was our 2nd visit)he took us to some very small, quiet temples that we would not otherwise have seen. I found a tuk tuk and guide book to be a better way of seeing the temple (as long as you can stand being without aircon for the day!!)
In Phnom Penh we picked up a tuk tuk from the airport who took us around the city looking for a place to stay. He was so helpful and, agin, he spoke reasonable English so we asked to hire him for the following day ($15)

agree that $15 a day is a mutually fair price. Add on $5 for Banteay Srei, and additional for more remote temples. Some tuk tuk drivers charge extra $5 for sunrise, some do not, so inquire.

If you get in a tuk tuk with a driver who needs a map or doesn't speak English, you should find another driver. You can trust most guesthouses to be associated with reputable drivers.

Go to Canbypublications.com website and have a look at the mini and grand circuits to get an idea of which temples you really want to see, then let him know what those are; he'll figure out the best route.
