Trip to Malaysia-Singapore-Thailand
Hi, my son who is studying in Malaysia is graduating in Dec 2012 and we (myself and my wife and a son) want to attend his convocation which is likely to take place on 14-15 Dec. We want to make use of this time and plans to visit KL, Melaka, Singapore, Phuket, Chiang Mai and Bangkok. We intend to start our journey on 3 Dec 2012 and finish by 20 Dec 2012. I've prepared the itinerary as follows:
3 Dec fly to Bangkok
5 Dec travel to Phuket
7 Dec travel to Chiang Mai
10 Dec travel to Bangkok and then to Kuala Lumpur
15 Dec travel to Melaka
16 Dec travel to Singapore
19 Dec travel to Kuala Lumpur
20 Dec fly Back
I hope it is not a wishful itinerary, can anyone guide me how to plan and where to stay in reasonable budget . Thanks

You are spending a lot of time in transit. I think you would enjoy your time there more with fewer stops. I'd eliminate Chiang Mai and divide the Thailand time between Bangkok and Phuket.
How are you getting from one place to another? There aer budget airlines that will fly you from Bangkok to Phuket and return, and from Bangkok to KL. Since you want to stop at Meleka, I expect you are taking one of the luxury buses from KL to meleka and from Meleka to Singapore. You can get from Singapore to KL on a bus or a budget airline. Take a look at Air Asia for good airfares.
Not knowing your budget, it is hard to make specific recommendations. For hotels, look at some of the booking sites like www.agoda.com and for Thailand, www.sawasdee.com

I'd agree with Kathie on too much transit time. And while its hard to recommend hotels without a specific budget, for a good value for money deal in Bangkok, try the Narai Hotel. Good location, clean hotel and usually goes for less than 85$. Singapore on the other hand is more expensive, but some good options exist there as well. The ParkRoyal on Beach Road, the Furama Riverfront and the Peninsula Excelsior all go for around the 150$ mark. They're quite decent with good locations, see where you can get the best deal for your dates.

way too much..
cut CM as kathie suggests, and also take one day from K/L..
add 2 days to phuket and one at least to bkk if you can..
what is your nightly hotel budget?
air asia, using light suitcases is the best way to get around..
bkk: ibis hotel
marriott mayfair
marriott sukhumvit park
chatrium suites riverside

If you were going to the Camerion Highlands in May-June for 2-3 days when it is gorgeous then it might bre time well spent to take in the beauty of the area. But without thast experience KL has some tresured monuments and a lot oif high-end shopping. If you plan well you could spend 6-7 days in BK and not get bored. You might drop Meleka as well abd relax in Phuket an extra day. Singapore you need one 10 hour hour day or and and 8 and 4-5 hour day for the gargens, zoo, ferry, shopping malls on orchard just to see (they are amazing) and the 3 year old casino is spectacular) and Little India
