Trip insurance--- cancel for any reason---anyone use this one
We have never used trip insurance before, but are wondering if it's worth getting.
Probably to make it worthwhile, the only kind of trip insurance that is of any use would have to be "cancel for any reason" trip insurance.
I found this one while searching on google.
It is "Travel Insurance Select ---Elite option" from USI Affinity insurance services company. It is rather pricey...about $440 for a 30 day trip. It will payout 100% if you have to cancel for ANY REASON, 150% for trip interruption, has a medivac evacuation included etc.
Has anyone heard of this company? Is it a reputable company which will be around if time comes to payout? Anyone have thoughts on this?

Another vote for insuremytrip. It is a great resource.
I wasn't aware actually that "cancel for any reason" insurance was now available such that it pays 100% of the trip cost. Absent a medical reason or similar, most of those policies generally pay a maximum of 75% of the trip cost. They are obviously more expensive then "ordinary" cancelation policies. If this one pays 100% versus 75, then that could well explain the higher cost. Good luck.

Traditionally "cancel for any reason" insurance has only been available within 14 days of booking your trip.
See if you can look at the actual policy. As we all know, what the ads say and the actual policy says may be different.

Sorry, I should have added the link to the site.

Does anyone know if these policies payout when the trip is cancelled because of family member illness etc(family member who is not a traveller on the trip itself).

Check out insuremytrip.com to compare. I always get the "cancel for any reason" insurance thru travel guard for any expensive trip(like Africa) but you do have to book usually within 14days of trip deposit and the policy I book does include illness of family members.
