Is that so? Well suggest you put some effort into it. Go to the library and get a guide book and study; think; what interests you?

It's your trip and your money. I find it almost unbelievable that you can ask this question.

But don't worry, you'll get loads of replies from those who have spent 14 days in India and are experts.

And all you need to do is follow their advice.

Search through other Asia threads. There are a lot of recent comments on traveling within India.

Where to go? Start with what you already know about India. Ask yourself: What places do you know about that you think you'd like to visit? Why did you choose India as a destination?

Print out a map of India with cities so you can see the lay of the land and where different cities are for planning.

But again, go back and search through the Asia threads - nearly everything has already been covered - and recently.

India has too many tourist destinations of various interests like beach holidays, backwater holidays, adventure holidays, hill holidays, historical & monumental holidays like Taj Mahal, spiritual holidays, Ayurveda Holidays etc. So, you have to be specific about your holidays. What you want to see here in India, accordingly I will reply you.

lunder - why have you decided to spend a month in India?

Unless you can answer that question, plus give us some information on other places you have enjoyed visiting and what your interests are, your question is unanswerable. There is enough to see in India to keep you occupied for a year rather than a month.

While afterall might have phrased it better, she's right. You need to read some guidebooks - the glossy ones that you wouldn't take on a trip - to come up with some ideas of what YOU want to see. Of course, if you really just want to see what others say are the "must-see" sights, all you need are some tour brochures.

The advice of thomasjevis is the best for you, only you have to confirm that these travel agents mentioned by thomasjevis are affiliated by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and travel associations like IATA, ASTA, IATO, TAAI etc. Only after confirmation you proceed ahead. But before that you have to be very specific because India is a vast country like a sub-continent with lot of tourist options. I am also pondering over, how suddenly you have decided to spend one month in India without planning!

You really should read up on India and prioritize the places you want to visit. You also need to decide if you how many internal flights you want to take (these are getting more and more expensive) or will prefer to drive / take trains. I am giving below a 30 day plan to cover North & South India with minimum flights but I really recommend you stick to either North or South and spend your time in one area (Ill be happy to send you some detailed programmes if you want). The 30 days India tour could be -
Fly into Chennai (1N) (get an open jaw ticket) - Mammalapuram - Pondicherry (1N) - Tanjore (2N) - Madurai (2N) - Periyar (1N) - Kumarakom (2N) - Houseboat cruise (1N) - Kovalam (2N) - Allepey (1N) - Cochin - (2N)- Fly to Goa (3N). Fly Goa to Udaipur via Bombay (No stop in Bomaby but you may want to consider this if you have read Maximum City or Shantaram). Udaipur (2N) - Jodhpur (1N) - Jaipur (2N) - Agra (1N) - Orchha (1N) - Khajuraho (1N) - Varanasi (2N) -Delhi (2N)
