Travel safety in Myanmar (Burma)
Planning an Asian trip Nov 2013-Feb,2014 with a friend - two ladies traveling solo. Plan some time in Thailand, Cambodia and Bali . Been considering a trip to Burma.
Is their any feedback on the safety traveling here, any concerns and areas to avoid?
Thanks!

Burma is as safe as any other Asian country, maybe more so, with the usual caveat to use common sense, as you would any place else. The government will not allow tourists to travelto areas where there is fighting. If you stick to the main tourist cities, you should be fine. Hope you decide to go, as Burma was one of my favorite trips.

In all of my travels, Burma has been the safest country in terms of visitor travel. Crimes against people - theft, assaults are almost unheard of.
Any areas where safety is an issue, i.e., areas where there is active fighting, are off-limits. So while I highly recommend the Mrauk U area, it has been closed off and on for over a year.
Have a wonderful time in Burma.

Favorite? That's always hard for me to say. One of the favorites, for sure. Have you read my two trip reports? SOme things are now out of date (re: money) but the info on the sights and people still apply. Chick on my name to find the trip reports.
