Tour Guide in Singapore

Cruise lines are normally in a port like Singapore for 1 day from 9-5 or as late as 8PM. But as Kathie said your best bet is to decide on whatbyou you want to see i.e. Botanical Gardens, Zoo and Little India and use taxis. Though the taxis are not as inexpensive as Bangkok the drivers all speak Enlish and in all the places I mentioned 98% of the locals speak English.

Kathie is right, no need to get a tour guide if you're in Singapore! It's easy to navigate 
You can go around by yourself or find fellow travellers to walk around or take a cab or even bus/MRT train.
And yeah, how long will you be there?? What do you like?? What's your budget??
Some recommended places:
- Singapore Flyer (30min ride so if you're alone it may be boring)
- Zouk (nightclub; if you like clubbing)
- Botanic Gardens, the Zoo, and the Night Safari (if you like nature, serenity, and/or animals. the night safari is pretty cool)
- Sentosa (if you like beaches and the sun!)
- Chinatown and Little India (quaint and very cultural places, quite interesting to take a walk around and soak in the culture and tradition)
- Reverse Bungee (if you're an adrenaline junkie; but it's a little pricey)
- Esplanade (great architecture, pretty at night, there are concert halls and theatres inside; it's quite an artsy place. you can see the river by the side too. go at night.)

Yes, you don't need a guide at all. Singapore is small and easy to get around.
If you are interested in museums I highly suggest the Asian Civilizations Museum near the river. They have a small but spectacular collection of artifacs from all over the SEA region.
Also if you go to the Botanical Garden and your time is limited go straight to the fabulous Orchid Garden in the middle.

You need to realize traffic is a bit of an issue in Singapore amd though they ask you to be back at the ship 1 hour before departure I often cut it closer but I would not do so in Singapore just in case the traffic delays you. Unfortunately that will eliminate the night safari mentioned that is very interesting. But in 8 hours the Gardens,Zoo, Little India. I thought the Chinatown there was a bit too seedy for my taste but you can guy junky trinkits for very little money.I did not go to Asian Civilization Museum but heard it is extremely interesting. With the stops mentioned you have a full 8-9 hours but expect to pay $50 in taxi fares but the day will be far better than the ship sponsored tours. They always are as long as you have a plan. Just look at a map so you go in a logical a logical route.
