We drove from JFK to Boston. The very cheap fare, i.e., $677 was from JFK-BKK on Singapore Air

In May, Beth and I will fly BOB-JFK-FRA-SIN-Denpasar. About $1300, but still a very good price. We're hoping SIN Air has new planes by that time. Also hope the FRA situation works out better.

Great additional trip report!

Loss of interest in the internet during the flu is like loss of appetite, quite predictable.

At least you enjoyed the Italian food!

$677, all taxes included, on Singapore Air. That's a steal, except for having to drive from Boston to New York.

My cousin used to be a flight attendant on Singapore. I have always wanted to try them out but they don't fly out of Boston.

We got a $900 (taxes included) ticket on ANA from Boston to Bangkok via DC and Tokyo in January- and I debated over going via the Pacific but the flights through Europe were just way too expensive ($1600 plus). I am dreading the flight but hope that Thailand will be worth it!

1). Women are never, ever satisfied - "oh no, they have more than I do. I will be nasty all day now." 2). Imagine working on one of these over-priced five star baby sitting hotels where the miserable complain non-stop about anything possible. A friend works in a 1200 AED night minimum room charge and he and his employees manage to laugh quite a lot about the self-important and miserable to live to tell others what to kiss and when. I am so happy I live outside of the U.S. now - it is in the steepest decline possible partly because the attitudes trumpeted here.

Puttakka-$900 from Boston is also a great deal. If we had booked BOS-JFK, the price would have been $800-850. So $900 is very close.

Merkxxx-I'm guessing you're not the only one that's happy that you live outside the US.

Yes, Gpanda - you can have it all - the failing education system, the collapsing dollar, economy, the golden age of stupidity as spectacularly celebrated in the person of Sarah Palin, a population so tasteless that it has dressed itself in nothing but black clothing for two decades, the obesity plague, feminists who have demanded the dumbing down of everything to accomodate their own needs, and yet are satisfied with nothing - perpetually miserable as your own thread - item afetr trivial item of why baby was not happy with what baby was served and another baby even had more than baby (#1)did. Yes, you can have the u.s. Gpanda edge to edge. In fact, you own it now - you won. You have everything, every material piece of junk mankind could have ever wished for and you are miserable. But you won.

Yep, having Bob on your side is a clear victory.

I'm best with the trivial. It adds meaning to my useless existence. However, the secret is to enjoy the minutiae of one's life. It can keep one from becoming bitter and living a meaningless emotional online life.

Smeagol-thanks, I'm glad someone is paying attention.

Michael-If Bob had his own airport, it would be full of general managers and nothing would ever get done. In fact, it would be a great deal like Logan Airport. The one thing we know Bob will never have is his own educational system. An oxymoron.

Siamlover-I suspect that Merkxxx has not been blessed with an overabundance of self-awareness. The posts seem to reflect a singular focus on our shortcomings.

As an aside, What are the chances that Merkxxx is female? There is no gender marker on our posts and it's possible. A very peculiar thought.

What's even a better deal, gpanda, is that, thanks to Capitalone, the $900 is for two tickets! I had enough points to redeem one ticket - Capitalone just gives you a statement credit. This a great way to get free tickets if you travel once or twice per year.

Originality from his Bobness? That's unlikely. We're talking about someone who has lived his entire life in Darkest Needham. Buying an apple computer would be revolutionary.

The other three inclusions are merely manifestations of his brutal control issues.

I also note that the last time we mistakenly vacationed with him that my trip report was done much in advance of his offering. I took the high ground and did not mention it. I was sick and offline during this trip. Apparently, the high ground remains unvisited by Bob. A Bob-free zone, if you will.

Yep, I think Merckxxx is fooling us all and is really a female. This does not preclude friendship with an inflationary friend.

"Darkest Needham" and the "People's Republic of Cambridge"!

Wow! sure glad you all aren't travel agents for new England!

As for Merckxxx's take on the US: happiness dwells inside of a person, not the particular geographic bit of earth he/she resides on temporarily.

Rhode Island is his claim to a broadened life? You're kidding me. This is a state that is tiny. A blip on the map. A clear afterthought. Of course ne doesn't live in cambridge. We have proportional voting that he could never figure out. We have intellectual thought. Do I really need to say more? Let sleeping Bobs lie. Darkest Needham.

But, BOB has an airport named after him (yes, really). BOB is Bora Bora in the South Pacific! (Been there, done that.)

I don't know of an airport named PANDA. Nor Andy, for that matter. Nor Karen or Beth or Maureen. Hmmm... food for thought. But BOB, most definitely.

I'll wave to you all in Darkest Needham and the Peoples' Republic of Cambridge as I fly over tomorrow, on my way home from ZRH.

Have you got snow on the way? Chicago is getting hit really hard about now. DS managed to get off the ground, on UA881 to BKK, but they left about an hour late. I don't relish the 3 hour drive home from ORD once I land tomorrow. UGH
