Thailand itinerary - thoughts please?

Would appreciate your opinion on our trip thanks -

7 nights in Koh Samui - son is getting married - celebration with family and friends over the week
fly to Bangkok pick up car and drive to
Kanchanaburi - 2 nights
Sukhothai -1 night
Chiang Mai - 3 nights
Elephant nature park - 1 night
overnight train to Bangkok
Bangkok - 4 nights
Home.

I feel we could spare a day out of Chiang Mai if we needed another night in Sukhothai or elsewhere.

cheers
Stormy!

Looks like a great trip. We did that drive a few years ago and really enjoyed it.

A few suggestions:
1. If you can avoid Kanchanaburi at weekends as it tend to fill up with partying students.
2. Erawan National Park is close to Kanchanaburi and worth a look.
3. Sukothai only really needs a half day so one nigh should be enough.
4. Lampung makes a nice stop for lunch en route to CM.
5. 3 nights is a nice amount of time for CM but if you did want night (or day trip) elsewhere then Chiang Rai’s Saturday walking market is better than that in CM and t White Temple and Black House are worth visiting.

Your Itinerary is very well planned and as you asked its better for you to spend your night at Sukhothai.
