WOW!!!

Yinandyang, please let us know how you got the Oriental down to $150. We're in the process of trying to negotiate with them and so far they're at $199. We're going to stay at the Oriental, but I'd like to get them down to the wonderful rate your impressive husband seems to been able to negotiate. If you can offer us any insights we'd really appreciate it.

We arrive the evening of June 27th - the day you leave. Hope you have a great time while you're there.

Good Luck!

We were able to use a travel agent discount for the Penn and the Oriental. Thanks JamesA, we just checked and the NOK air does go thru BKK. The layover doesn't seem too bad, 2 hours. Eddie at Seatours was THB 5,670 per person, which I thought rather expensive.

Well we are on count down mode. I feel like I am so last minute with everything on this trip. Which is not like me at all. Originally we were going to NZ and Aust, but when we found out all was well in Thailand we changed mid stream. Thailand was our first choice. So I am glad everything is working out.

3 days and counting Thanks for the help. I keep an extensive travel journal, so I should be able to have a good post when we return. We decided to do 2 days in KL and 3 days in Singapore with day trips from each place. Can not wait!!

Yinandyang,

Have a great trip! Let us know what you did and how everything was. Since many of us are always putting in out two cents, it's nice to know what others think of our suggestions.

Geez, I've been in Costa Rica for the past ten days and just got home last night and I think it's going to take me a week to catch up with everything that's gone on on this forum! Plus I need to get my trip report and photos ready for the CR forum.

just a quickie - not had time to go through all the posts but we had 5 nights in the BKK exec suite and it was out of this world. It was our first time in BKK and we jumped about all over the place - location wasnt an issue for us - just hail a tuk tuk and off you go

have a ball

I would avoid the Tuk Tuks unless you like being "taken for a ride"!

I love the tuk tuks. I've only told one driver to STOP and let me out!

Ok we have one happy camper on the Tuk Tuks- but if you do a search on this forum you will find a number of horror stories about Tuk Tuk drivers taking people where they don't want to go- like to certain shops where the driver gets a gas coupon and the tourist gets ripped off, drivers stalking tourists, inflated prices, etc.

make that two happy campers. . while i usually don't use tuk tuks, because i prefer the skytrains, mrt, and the cab, i have had only one negative experience with tuk tuks, when i was riding with orgy. not because of orgy, but because of where we were. it was close to khao san road during songkran, and cabs and tuk tuks were hard to come by, so we paid a little extra to get back to suk. but, i think the driver also included in the fare, the inconvenience of getting wet, as we were pelted at nearly every corner of the trip back to suk. the tuk tuk and the driver got a good soak(so did we).

i found a better way to get to khao san road for next year. take the water taxi from nana nua landing on soi 3, and for 9b, it will take you all the way to golden mount wat. you can walk to khao san rd from there.

I don't use tuk-tuks as my major mode of transport but have used them on several occasions for short rides. I've never had a problem being taken anywhere I didn't ask to go and found the drivers to be courteous.

Hello all I am a newbie here. So I want to say hello to all !!!

I have planned my first trip to Asia with my partner. Departing November 8th and Flying back on November 30th. I would like to get advice on must visits and length of time.

The itenarary that I have is as follows:

November 8/9 fly and arrive in Bangkok
November 10-20 Visit Bangkonk (stay at Marriott Resort & Spa) and the North - include trekking, elephant riding and cooking lessons.
November 21 to 29 Fly to Phuket and stay at JW Marriott (I am a beach berson, planning to do a lot of sea activities - diving).

If you all can throw some ideas, as to where to go and see, length of time please let me know.

PS. Is Cambodia a must visit? Afraid it will be thight.

Thanks !
David
