<<<It'll end up with so close and yet so far>>>
I listened to it on BBC Radio 5. Quite enjoyed the commentary except when it was being shared with a humourless, matter-of-fact female.
Here's the over of gloom [some viewers may find the content rather disturbing]...

Joe Root should have had that last over, taken the pace off the ball, and hey-presto England would now be World Champions of the sport of Slog-it. Personally I'd have balled pee-rollers!

You've got to feel a little for Ben Stokes though. In the first over he took two excellent catches off Joe Root's dolly droppers...

That set England up for an unlikely victory, which looked more likely over by over.
And then as we were getting the champagne out, it all went pear-shaped very very quickly.

well, the result couldn't have been any worse!
Not Stokes' fault at all of course, it was those idiot batsmen who managed to get themselves out in a variety of asinine ways so that the WI didn't have a big enough total to chase - it was the bowlers [and Root] who almost won the match.
Still, if it's converted you to the white ball, LL, it's achieved something.
<<An Aussie feel sorry for an English bowler - now that's something!!!!>>
Indeed. Actually I think that the West Indies' players felt sorry for him too, in a strange sort of a way. All except Samuels of course who seems to have a knack of rubbing people up the wrong way - apparently he took the opportunity afterwards to have a go at everyone he feels has "dissed" him - all the others' fault of course!
For those who are already feeling cricket -deprived, the English County Championship starts on Sunday, with [now don't get too excited] every ball broadcast on the BBC. That's right - every ball. Some may only make it as far as Radio Back of Beyond but still it's more cricket than ever before. Just please don't let the commentator be Charlie Dagnall [Sorry Charlie, nothing personal]
LL - I should think that this is right up your street. Traditional red ball cricket played at snail's pace in front of two men and a dog which thinks it's having a bad day as it's not allowed to chase the ball. And the odd pigeon. [i jest, but only slightly]

Almost perfection. The sun needs to be out too.

Victoria won our Sheffield shield so I'm quite chuffed.
Love the banter between Aussies and Poms on cricket .
I remembered when my son first arrived in Yorkshire the locals were so excited cause an Aussie had come and could play cricket - he said the expectations were embarrassing . He only played for his university side not even district which is just under state cricket.
Well at least we had a coach in the men's final of T20 - hehe.

@ annhig -- I'm about to speak about something clearly off topic, and will do so as discreetly as I can -- I hope you will forgive and understand!
To other readers of this post -- my apologies for posting something obscure. I hope you will trust that I have reasons for this indirect message....
To my surprise, I was favorably linked to you, annhig, in a thread that spoke to civilities. Please know that I do not consider myself in your league, although I aspire to it. I am well aware that I have many rough edges, and think I've even (to my regret) responded less constructively than I would have liked to one of YOUR recent planning threads. So, FWIW, please know that I felt extraordinarily flattered to be mentioned in the same sentence that mentioned YOUR politeness, and I hope know that I realize that I don't belong there.
And BTW, the consensus that you, annhig, are Fodor's most polite poster is well deserved. You are AWESOME!

goodness, kja - I really don't know what to say.
Except thank you.
[in fact I remember the thread and actually you made a very valid point which made me consider how I approach things in the future, so i owe you thanks for that too!]
