Suggestions for Honeymooners

My fiance and I are planning a 2 week honeymoon in Thailand in mid-September. We've heard that Koh Samui is beautiful, and are planning a week there. Would appreciate suggestions for a romantic beach cottage/hotel that's a good value (under $150 per night) in Koh Samui. Can you also recommend where to stay in Bangkok (near the river) and other areas to visit that are must sees.... For instance, is Chiang Mai and/or Chiang Rai both worth going to and where would you recommend we stay. Any other must see or do suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

In Koh Samui, try Poppies or Laem Set. Laem Set will be quieter as it is off the beaten path. Poppies is in the midst of it all. Tongsai Bay is also gorgeous...though maybe not within your budget. Check out sawadee.com...you can see pictures of most places on Samui. In Bangkok, stay at the Peninsula. We stayed there in December and are going back in August. Reserve through expedia.com, asiatravel.com or lhw.com and you'll get a much better than rack rate. lhw.com has terrific pictures...be assured that the place looks just like the pictures, and the service is excellent to match. The best beach by far is Chaweng Beach on Koh Samui. The best hotel on the beach is the Chaba Resort Hotel at $45 to $75 a night with a GREAT buffet breakfast it is a bargain. Two pools, the beach and all the service you could use. Have dinner at least two nights at the Drop Inn Restaurant. Romantic, great food and Baskins icecream for dessert-you can't beat that. You can book on the Net or call 011-677-422-135.
ROGER

Have a wonderful time. We did exactly the same sort of honeymoon, 5 years ago. Koh Samui is fab, and the weather is sensational. We stayed at the Santiburi Dusit resort, which is beautiful, but not too sure on current prices. Its about 10 mins away from the main area, but we hired a moped most days. When we arrived in Bangkok, we did an overnight river cruise on a coverted teak rice barge, from Bangkok up to the old capital,Ayuthallah (not correct spelling). Bit $$ but we felt like a king and queen, cruising up the river, being waited up hand and foot. Worth investigating. The company name is Manora Song Cruises. Also did a guided 3 day tour up in the high country. Elephant trekking, rafting, long boat ride up river - all excellent.
Have a wonderfully special time
Cheers, Lee

Second vote for The Peninsula in BKK. Just returned 2 days ago. Fabulous - with every technological amenity you could desire. Right on the River - easy to get around and romantic (especially for BKK).
