Jiufen to Taroko Gorge and trains in general. Need some help!
I am going to be in Taiwan for about a week. After staying in Jiufen, I was thinking of heading to Taroko. I've tried to look up the train schedules on their site, but haven't had luck. On, http://www.railway.gov.tw/en/index.aspx , when I input Ruifang to Xincheng, it comes back mostly "Shulin→Hualien." What am I doing wrong?
Also, are their fares on the site in USD or NTD?
Is it necessary to buy tickets ahead of time when going from Taipei to Ruifang, Ruifang for the pixi line, and then Ruifang to Taroko and then back to Taipei?
Thanks!

You need to put Taipei as the district and then select Ruifang as the station.
Hualien station in Hualien district is the closest station to Taroko.
There is only one train a day from Ruifang to Hualien, you are likely better off going back to Taipei.
Book long distance tickets ahead of time, I doubt you need to bother for short distances.
Why on earth would you think that prices on a Taiwanese government website would be in USD? Or Canadian dollars or euros, for that matter. Do you seriously think that a train ticket is going to cost over 300 USD?

I think I figured it out. I kept looking at the origin and destination. That is just the first and last place. There are 7 trains from ruifagg to hualien daily according to their site.
