Sri Lanka in August

Hello, we just came back from Sri Lanka and here is my report and thoughts for this amazing country.
We stayed in Sri Lanka for 12 days. We experienced many things we didn't expect. All hotels we stayed in where amazing. We stayed at the following
- Amaara Forest hotel in Sigiriya - great place, very peaceful, a lot of activities and places to see
- Calm Resort at Passikudah - it is a resort by the beach. The truth is that since we are from Greece we weren't thrilled with the beach and the waters there. Another problem was, that nearby there are not so many places you can go. So you have to stay at the hotel most of the time. We were supposed to stay there for 3 nights but we left a day earlier.
- Elephant Watch Hut - so we decided to stay at a tree house. It was a perfect experience! Totally recommended if you are looking for more adventure. The place was wonderful, the stuff very helpful. At night they prepared dinner. It was the best food we had in Sri Lanka! If you decide to stay there you should have your own torches if you want to look for Elephants passing by at night.
- Cinnamon Citadel at Kandy - then we went to Kandy. Beautiful hotel, in an amazing location. The city is also very beautiful.

We took the train from Kandy to Bandarawela. It is one of the best train rides ever. It was a 7 hours ride. Beautiful images, great experience. We were also lucky enough to have in house entertainment! Our co-travellers started singing at some point Sri Lankan songs and it was amazing. If you go to Sri Lanka don't forget to include a train ride in your plans.

- Villa Perpetua at Bandarawela. Beautiful house made into a hotel with only 7 rooms with a beautiful garden. The view from there is amazing.
- Wild Trails at Yala. Then we stayed at a Safari camp tent. Also an amazing experience and very well preserved place. At night we watched the sky and it was the best view I've ever had. On the same day we went to Yala for a Safari. If you want to see leopards you should go very early in the morning - around 6am - before it gets crowded.
-Cinnamon Lakeside at Colombo - we spent the last night at Colombo. Interested city but not for more than one night. We had a drink at Cinnamon Red on the roof top where you can have a great city view.

Overall, it was a great travel experience. Totally recommended.
We organised everything with Dinesh Fernando ([email protected]) - a great local guide. He drove us everywhere, explained everything and he was really great. He speaks fluently English and Greek!

Thank you for your brief travel report and reviews of your hotels? I'm saving this for a trip I'm hoping to take sometime in the next 2 years. Lots of good recommendations!

Me too. Especially that bit about the elephant watch hut.

Glad you enjoyed yourself, timeryin.

We loved Sri Lanka and like you were blown away by the terrific hotels and the food. We weren't as adventurous as you, but it's difficult to have a bad time there I think.
