"River Kwai" ugh, that brings back some bad memories. Back in '97 or '98, on my second trip to Asia, I made the horrible mistake of going to Thailand on an OAT tour (extenuating circumstance (maybe) - my previous Asian experience had been a China tour with the Smithsonian - a gilded cocoon). We spent an hour or so on the River Kwai as part of an expedition to Kanchanaburi and the "Death Railway". Total waste of time.

Dogster, I read about the river Kwai cruise and it sounded awful - glad to get your confirmation.
