Why waste a day or maybe two,in Bangkok when you can get the visa before you leave, by mail.

I've never heard of a surcharge for arriving after 6:00 pm at Lao airports. At the land borders, yes. The OP is flying among the destinations. Has the price of a Lao visa increased? Last I was there the price was US$30.

For Laos a 30 day visa (used to be 15 days and cost $30) is issued at airports and most land crossing. The cost varies by nationality for example - US/UK/Europe $37, Cdn $44, Aust $32. On weekends and holidays there may be a $1 surcharge added especially at land crossings.

Hanuman and Vientianeboy lets stop thse personel attacts between the two of you. It adds nothing in the way of travel information and should be deleted by the editor

You don't need a visa for Thailand. As a US citizen you should get a 30 day visa-waiver stamp on arrival at an airport or a 15 day stamp at a land border.

For Laos and Cambodia you can buy your visa on arrival at the airport of land border. USD$ are the currency to bring though you can also sometimes pay with Thai Baht if you don't mind paying more compared to US$.

For Myanmar you need your visa in advance. A US citizen can:

A. mail it to the Embassy in DC using FedEx and enclose a self-addressed FedEx envelope for the return. $20 + mailing fees.

B. Buy the visa in Bangkok. About $24 (paid in Baht)- It takes 2 working days (EG Lodge the application Monday AM / Pick it up Wednesday PM)... or pay an additional 400Baht ($12)or so for same-day service. Be aware they can refuse same-day service if they are too busy / short-staffed. Agencies in Bangkok are generally reluctant to apply for tourist visas as the Embassy may want to ask you additional questions that, clearly, they can't answer for you. Most of the agents you see there are applying for group travel or business visas where fewer questions are asked by the Embassy.

C. If you are using a Myanmar agent for your travel arrangements there they can arrange a 'VOA' (Visa On Arrival) for you. US$20 for the visa and usually about $35 for the service. You scan and email them your passport info page in advance and they do the rest.

If you need an agent I recommend 'Mr Myanmar Travel' who can be contacted on [email protected].

Travlr1, I would recommend spending no less than 9 days / 8 nights in Myanmar as this is the absolute minimum required to see the main attractions in comfort.

Hope that's helpful!
